In Which I Knitted...
In Which I Knitted...
This weekend I traveled all by my little lonesome all the way to London with the sole purpose of spending the whole day in a giant room full of yarn, needles, and knitters at I Knit Day. At I Knit Day I knitted with extremely large needles, made a yarn pom-pom for peace, and bought my first skein of sock yarn, among many other delicious activities.
I attended an excellent lecture given by author Jane Waller, called A Stitch in Time: Vintage Knitting. Waller wrote A Stitch in Time in the 1970's, and many say that her book helped relaunch an interest in knitting. She spoke about how to clothes women knitted for themselves from the 1920's through the 1950's was influenced by both their roles in society and the roles they wanted to have in society. I love learning about fashion, knitting, and women's issues, so this lecture was a real treat for me. Plus, Jane and her cohorts were all dressed in vintage clothes, which made it extra fun.
A Stitch in Time is being re-published, and I can't wait to get my paws on it!
Even though I enjoyed the Stitch in Time lecture a great deal, I think my favorite part of the day was the A Stitich in Time Fashion Show. Stay tuned for a video later this week!
